Property for sale in Portugal - Part 2
Portugal has an astonishingly beautiful landscape for a relatively small country. Although less than 100 miles wide and 350 miles in length Portugal has an extraordinary range of terrain - from the spectacular sandstone cliffs of the south to the cork- tree dotted planes of the arid Alentejo and the soft green hills of the north. Despite the popularity of the property for sale in Portugal, the land remains remarkably unspoilt. Even the Algarve a few miles inland is relatively undeveloped. Here you will find old walled towns and small walled villages.
Things, it has to be admitted are slowly changing. Since becoming a member of the European Union in 1986, Portugal is no longer quite so cheap or quite so isolated as it once was. But there is still a sense of simplicity about life there, especially away from the Major towns. A simplicity that is enormously attractive to anyone stressed out by the demands of the northern European rat race and is reflected in the property for sale in Portugal. Existence remains close to the land, local produce is available to local people (the long standing resentment towards Spain, its larger and wealthier neighbours, now seems to be focused mainly upon the introduction of cheap Spanish oranges into the Portugal market). Fresh ingredients are essential for Portuguese cooking and the national cuisine- with its rich stews, fine soups and soft cheese ranks high up their with some better known world cuisines.
