Gumbet
It is not usual in life that you can greet the rising sun with a bowl of soup, but this is a traditional breakfast dish served in Gumbet - now recognised as an independent, lively resort in its own right after being considered an extension or suburb of nearby Bodrum until recently. Very much a place in which to let your hair down at night in the many great bars and clubs, Gumbet truly comes alive in the evenings with miles of coloured rope lights adorning most every building and street to add a touch of fantasy to such a charming location. Known for its cuisine, it is not unusual to find restaurants in Gumbet where superb Turkish, Indian, Japanese, Mexican, Thai and Chinese dishes can all be served from a single kitchen!
Very much a quiet, relaxing place in the daytime, lounging in the sun on the long, curving beach that fringes the bay is one way for the family to unwind here, as are the many water sports available. Alternatively, a visit to the fascinating Museum of Underwater Archeology or an excursion to the nearby Milas Carpet Village to snap up a bargain Turkish rug can be highly recommended. With all the amazing sights of the Bodrum Peninsula within easy reach, there is a huge variety of historical and natural attractions surrounding Gumbet,an ideal base from which to explore during the day, sampling the delicious food and famous nightlife of Gumbet after sundown.
