Property for sale in Antalya on the Turkish Riviera, Turkey
Continuously inhabited since it was founded in 159 BC, the beautiful city of Antalya is the beating heart of the Turkish tourism industry - the neighbouring coastal towns to the east and west, the 'Antalya Region', forming what is more commonly referred to as the Turkish Riviera. Picturesque, exciting, enchanting and mystical, Antalya is a magnet for holidaymakers of all tastes as a playground that offers the visitor every opportunity to immerse themselves in just about everything Turkey as a whole has to offer - all in one location. Historical sites and incredible scenery are in abundance for the sightseer; leisure and sporting pursuits of every kind satisfy the thrillseeker, and all can be appreciated in a resort that enjoys a guranteed average of 300 clear, sunny days per year.
Set against the pine forest-draped Taurus Mountains that sweep spectacularly down to the sea, creating an irregular, rocky coastline, Antalya is a very attractive city, ablaze with colour in its narrow, winding streets; boulevards lined with palm trees; an award-winning marina and impressive modern buildings and hotels merging in perfect harmony with the significant historical sites that await the visitor around virtually every corner. Beyond the obvious beach attractions for the children, the huge and spectacular Aquapark can keep them amused for days on end!
For the history, architecture and culture buff, there are many treasures to be found in Antalya. The obvious starting point for exploration should be the elegant 13th Century Yivli Minareli Mosque in the centre of the city, the towering fluted minaret of which has become the symbol of Antalya. Other mosques worthy of visits are the exquisitely tile-decorated 16th Century Murat Pasa Mosque, the Tekeli Mehmet Pasa Mosque (18th Century) and, close to the marina, the 19th Century Iskele Mosque adds to the architectural splendour of Antalya in being set on four stone pillars over a natural spring. There are many other historical sites worth visiting in the city and surrounding area, too numerous to mention here, but we can certainly recommend visits to the Archeological and Ataturk Museums to learn more about the history of this fascinating region.
